Heroes
of Nashville
On
June 13, 2002, Nashville firefighters rushed to what they thought was a business, but it turned
out to be the home of a woman with many
pets. Nearly 200 exotic birds and a dog died
from smoke inhalation. Later, it was
reported that they were able to save a few of the
birds. The fire was said to have been caused
by an electrical fire.
As people with bird
companions, we know how difficult it must have
been to even attempt to save these
creatures. Thrashing in fright, they must
have been difficult to remove, and big beaks such
as the one on the greenwing macaw in the photo
were surely intimidating. And yet, they
tried, as gallantly shown in the photograph.
The actions of the
Nashville Fire Department touch us to our core,
and we are shown once again what special people
are nation's firefighters are. Please sign
the gratitude book and let the the Nashville Fire
Department know how much they were appreciated.
